We hope that you are enjoying this summer. We have an upcoming event during this season that we hope you will join us for, Partnering for Employment (VEC & VR).
One of the biggest responsibilities we have at Vista Education Campus is to help students toward their own paid employment. One of our biggest partners in this effort is Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). We help students explore, build their experience, and learn soft skills through instruction while they are here. Vocational Rehabilitation supports during that time and actively helps identify and find employment with your student as he or she is prepared to begin (hopefully in their 2nd to last or last year at VEC).
We believe that students can work - whether it is 2 hours a week up to full-time employment.
Work gives students
"Their thing" to take pride in,
Community where they contribute,
Confidence in their lives,
Increased skills,
Earned income*,
Connection with others, and
Fun occasionally doing something different than home.
(* Even if a student receives SSI and benefits from Social Security, there is a certain amount of time/income that a student can work. UWIPS will have a representative at the event to talk about how that works. )
While early on at VEC, our goal is to help you build your team. That includes having a partner who helps with preparing for and finding employment - as well as supporting your student as they start that employment. Let's safely build on each student's interests, skills, and ability to work. Please come and learn more about how VR can help you. There will be a general orientation and then an opportunity to talk with them about your specific student.
